Moved the date palms to night irrigation
Shifted the block to night irrigation three weeks ago to cut evaporation losses during the hot months.
Too early to claim a water saving — I only started logging meter readings this month, so treat this as a Baseline. What I can say is the surface stays damp longer into the morning than it did on the midday schedule.
If anyone on this feed has run night irrigation on dates through a full season, I would like to hear whether it held up in peak summer.

Whitefly showed up early in the greenhouse
Found whitefly on the underside of leaves in two of the tomato rows this week, earlier in the season than I usually see it.
I have put out yellow sticky traps and I am checking the same ten plants every other day so I have a consistent count to compare against. Status: Under review — I want a couple more weeks of observations before changing anything.
Holding off on spraying until I know whether it is spreading or staying in those two rows.

Question on salinity in older blocks
The older block nearest the boundary has been slower to green up than the rest, and I suspect salt build-up rather than nutrition.
Soil samples went out last week, results pending. Rather than guess, I am marking this Under review until the lab comes back.
Has anyone here dealt with this by leaching, by changing rootstock, or by accepting a lower-value crop on that block? Interested in what actually worked, not what is supposed to work.
